About Department

The Department of Applied Physical Education was established as part of the restructuring of the college’s departments during the 1995/1996 academic year. On 10 July 2024, approval was granted to change the name of the Department of Physical Education to the Department of Applied Physical Education and to introduce a Bachelor’s degree program in Applied Physical Education.

The department aims, through its Bachelor’s program, to meet labor‑market demands and keep pace with global scientific developments in the field. The program includes both theoretical and practical scientific courses. It consists of 69 practical credit hours designed to ensure that graduates are capable of working in sports clubs and fitness centers, covering all individual and team sports such as physical preparation, physical exercises, football, handball, basketball, volleyball, swimming, gymnastics, athletics, racket sports, field training, sports injuries, self‑defense sports, and fencing.

The program also includes 66 theoretical credit hours focusing on sports training, sport psychology, sport sociology, curricula and teaching methods, learning and motor development, anatomy, physiology of physical activity, kinesiology, biomechanics, management, measurement and evaluation in physical education, and adapted physical education.

To prepare distinguished graduates committed to values, guided by science, and excelling in applied sports performance, equipped to utilize various fields of knowledge related to physical education sciences.

Program Mission

To prepare a generation equipped with theoretical and practical knowledge that enables them to work across academic and training sectors, advance the profession, and serve both the local and regional community in accordance with international quality standards.

The department’s academic staff consists of 13 Professors, 4 Associate Professors, 4 Assistant Professors, 3 Lecturers, and 2 Teaching Assistants.

The department offers a Master’s program in Physical Education, with two tracks: thesis and comprehensive examination.

The Faculty of Physical Education was established in 1993. Prior to this it was a department at the Faculty of Arts. The department was incorporated in 1988 with the Faculty of Education and Fine Arts.
