Overview of the Department of Sport Sciences
The Department of Sport Sciences was established as part of the restructuring of the faculty’s academic departments during the 1995/1996 academic year. On 10 July 2024, the Higher Education Council approved the introduction of a Bachelor’s degree program in Sport Sciences.
Through its Bachelor’s program—which includes both theoretical and practical scientific courses—the Department of Sport Sciences at Yarmouk University seeks to meet labor‑market demands and keep pace with global scientific advancements in the field. The program consists of 93 theoretical credit hours covering all disciplines associated with and supporting sport sciences, such as kinesiology, biomechanics, exercise physiology, sports nutrition, sports rehabilitation, and sports marketing. It also includes 42 practical credit hours designed to develop graduates’ ability to work in sports clubs and fitness centers, with focus on resistance training, aerobics, racket sports, and swimming.

To prepare Sport Sciences students to become leaders in the field at both the national and Arab regional levels, capable of applying the various scientific disciplines within sport sciences to enhance the quality of life in the local community and improve athletic team performance.
Program Mission
The Department of Sport Sciences at Yarmouk University strives to be a leading institution in the sports field at the national and Arab levels, providing solid opportunities that qualify students to pursue advanced studies or work competently across various areas of sport sciences and athletic performance.
The department currently employs 9 faculty members at the rank of Professor, 4 faculty members at the rank of Associate Professor, 1 faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, 2 lecturers, and 2 teaching assistants.
The department also offers a Master’s degree in Sport Sciences / Kinesiology, with two tracks: a thesis track and a comprehensive exam track.
